Heart
disease and inflammation
Heart
disease has become increasingly linked to a process
known as inflammation which is characterized by an
overactive immune system and more specifically the
activity of certain inflammatory cells that promote the
process that blocks up your blood vessels.
New research has demonstrated that women with a
high white cell count which is located in the top
quartile of the range at 6.7—15 x 10,000,000,000 white
cells were more than twice as likely to die from heart
disease as women in the lowest quartile (2.5—4.7).
Interestingly these women were also more likely
to sustain a heart attack as well as a stroke and had an
increased risk of dying from other causes.
The moral of the story is to limit inflammation
or at least have those tests which inform you of the
presence of this harmful process.
These tests form part of the anti-ageing
programme which is carried out at my clinic in Baulkham
Hills, Sydney.
