Natural remedies for anxiety:

 

For those who are weary of taking anxiety-reducing medications such as valium and desire a more natural approach to this condition here are some ideas that might help from articles in the October 2004 edition of the ‘Townsend letter for doctors and patients.’

  1. 12 grams a day of inositol a member of the B vitamin family has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety over a 4 week period.  Inositol can also be used to treat panic disorder as well as bulimia nervosa and binge eating.
  2. Deficiencies of vitamins B1, B3, B6 and B12 might be implicated.
  3. Low blood sugar, excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption might trigger symptoms.
  4. One researcher has found that supplementation with 200mg of magnesium improves nervousness and reduces insomnia.
  5. Herbal remedies sush as lavender and lemon balm.
