Alternatives for depression
I recently read a review in a magazine that comes out
weekly for doctors which had a nice article detailing
the natural alternatives for dealing with mild to
moderate depression.
There were some interesting revelations in this
article so I thought I should share these with you.
These suggestions aren’t meant to replace
standard treatment and if you are receiving some form of
anti-depressant medication you should discuss any
changes you wish to implement with your health care
provider.
- Regular
aerobic and strength-training activities have the
potential to reduce symptoms by 50%.
- Lactose
intolerance has been associated with depression.
Lactose is found in dairy products.
Lactose in the bowel might bind with L-tryptophan
leading to reduced serotonin synthesis, the chemical
in the brain, which reduces depression.
- Higher
seafood consumption leads to less depression.
- Omega-3
fatty acids found in fish oil have the ability to
reduce depression. The dose is 9.6grms daily.
- Low
folic acid might be implicated and folate
supplementation can assist with the management of
depression. Remember
folate is found in Neurazest described on this site.
- Remedies
such as the herb st john’s wort and S-adenosylmethionine
otherwise known as SAMe have been found to be
effective for treating mild to moderate depression.
