Strontium for osteoporosis
A new substance has come to the for with regard to the
management of osteoporosis.
The highly reputable New England Journal of
Medicine (January 29th 2004) has recently
reported the effects of strontium ranelate on the risk
of vertebral fractures in women with postmenopausal
osteoporosis indicating that the incidence of fractures
is reduced. Strontium is actually a natural element and
part of the periodic table.
As osteoporosis is such a common problem and so
potentially incapacitating once fractures occur such as
those of the hip and substance that makes this problem
more manageable is most welcome.
