Managing psoriasis with natural
remedies
This topic has been covered before
on this site but a recent review by American nutritional
expert Dr Shari Lieberman in the December 2002 edition
of the ‘Journal of Alternative and Complementary
Therapies’ is worth a mention. With regards to topical
treatments that are applied to the skin Dr Lieberman
includes a combination of vitamin B12 cream with avocado
oil found to be effective when compared with a vitamin
D3 potion called calipotriene, selenium sulfide shampoo,
licorice extract, capsaiscin and aloe vera all of which
have some efficacy.
Supplements of fish oil, vitamins C and E, the
herb st mary’s thistle otherwise known as silymarin,
avoiding acidic foods such as coffee, tomatoes, soda and
pineapple, reducing omega-6 fatty acids, removing gluten
and dairy and having an assessment for food intolerance
are the strategies that Lieberman suggests might be
tried in managing this extremely bothersome and
difficult skin condition.
