Alternative treatments for
Helicobacter pylori
I’ve consulted with
a few patients in recent times who are suffering from
infestations with Helicobacter pylori, which did not
respond to conventional treatments.
This is a germ, which resides predominantly in
the stomach and is associated with inflammation of the
lining of the stomach, stomach ulcers and even cancer of
the stomach. There
is also a possibility that this bacterium has some
involvement with heart disease. As fas as symptoms are concerned pain in the stomach area is
the most common indication that you have a Helicobacter
infection but you can also be asymptomatic.
A C14 breath test, which can be performed by your
physician, will confirm the presence of this organism.
Orthodox treatments include antibiotics and
acid-suppressing agents, which for the most part are
quite effective. Sometimes
this kind of approach does not work at which stage
alternative therapies can be incorporated.
These would include vitamin C, mastic gum,
acidophilus powder or capsules and the herbs barberry,
grapefruit seed extract, thyme, myrrh, cinnamon, golden
seal, garlic, liquorice and tansy.
You have to give this kind of approach 3 months
to work after which you can repeat the breath test to
see whether Helicobacter pylori has been eradicated.
