Gingko biloba to treat vitiligo
Vitiligo
is a depigmentation condition of the skin whereby
certain parts of the skin lose their pigment.
While the precise cause of this condition is yet
to be determined it is thought to be associated with an
autoimmune problem, which is characterised by an
inadvertent attack of the immune system on skin pigment
cells. While
conventional medical treatments do lead to successful
outcomes there are occasions when this condition is
difficult to manage.
A fascinating study documented in the journal
‘Clinical Experimental Dermatology’ May 2003 has
found that the herb gingko biloba which is found in
Neurazest taken at a dose of 40mg three times daily was
able to achieve repigmentation in just under 50% of
vitiligo sufferers in a clinical trial carried out at
the Department of Dermatology in Chandigar, India.
Treatment with gingko biloba provides an exciting
new option for managing this condition.
