Natural remedies for asthma
In
a review of the June issue 2003 of
‘Alternative and Complementary therapies’ the
authors site a number of supplementary remedies and
dietary strategies to help manage asthma. These include:
- The
assessment of food allergy/intolerance, which might
precipitate symptoms, is indicated.
- Increased
gastrointestinal permeability otherwise known as
the’ leaky gut’ syndrome, which I investigate
regularly in my patients, has been found in a larger
percentage of asthma sufferers compared with control
subjects.
- Supplementing
with pyridol 5’-phosphate, the active form of
vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium and omega-3 fatty
acids is thought to be beneficial.
- The
herbs coleus forskohlii and tylophora have the
ability to open the airways and improve lung
function in asthma sufferers.
