Further weight loss tips
I was privileged to participate in a teleconference
hosted by American naturopathic expert Dr Michael Murray
just a few hours ago during which he highlighted
suggestions for effective weight loss.
These included:
- Eating
healthy fats such as those found in extra virgin
olive oil, raw nuts, seeds, macadamia nut oil, fish
oil and avocado. These increase insulin sensitivity which might make it
easier for your body to utilise sugar to generate
energy. This
would make fat burning an easier proposition.
- Foods
that have a high glycaemic index such as white rice,
white flour, candies and chocolate as well as foods
that are high in saturated fat including butter and
red meat might decrease insulin sensitivity which
makes it harder for you to burn fat.
- Ongoing
stress also makes it more difficult to lose weight
and increases your appetite.
The nutrient phosphatidylserine can decrease
the stress hormone cortisol.
- Fibre
which fills you up can decrease appetite.
- Deficiencies
of magnesium and B vitamins as well as low thyroid
function can lead to cravings for carbohydrates.
- L-theanine
in green tea works well to reduce stress induced
eating.
- Supplementing
with calcium can increase the elimination of fat via
your bowel.
