New treatments for seborrheic
dermatitis (dandruff) and eczema
I have had a number of patients
present to me lately with difficult skin conditions,
which haven’t responded to any treatments both
conventional and alternative.
I have reviewed this topic before on the updates
of this site so you should scroll down to get all the
information that I’ve presented previously.
What I thought I’d do is have a look at all the
latest scientific data and this is what I’ve come up
with. As it
turns out there are a host of new creams for managing
seborrheic dermatitis as demonstrated in recent clinical
trials. These
include:
Ciclopirox, an
antifungal agent, 0.1% tacrolimus ointment, an
immunosuppressive medication, tacalcitol cream a vitamin
D3 compound and 5% tea tree oil all of which are
effective treatments for this disorder.
Vitamin E and essential fatty acid deficiencies
have also been implicated. Addressing digestive function
and food allergy is also important.
Supplementing with B vitamins and zinc can reduce
symptoms.
What you need to do
is to get your physician to write a script for these,
which can be compounded by a pharmacy, which has a
licence to dispense such formulations.
There is also
evidence that 0/1% tacrolimus is an effective treatment
for eczema and once again your compounding pharmacist
can be of service in this regard.
