NEW
CANCER TREATMENTS
Recent scientific evidence
published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation indicates
that COX-2 inhibitors such as Celebrex currently used
for the treatment of arthritis can also be used in the
fight against cancer.
These drugs appear
to block an enzyme implicated in the development of
tumors. Research is now accumulating which suggests
that COX-2 inhibitors may successfully treat cancers
of the colon, pancreas, breast and prostate amongst
others.
By blocking an enzyme
called cyclooxygenease-2 these drugs are able to cut
off the blood supply, which the cancer cells need to
survive. So far this work has been restricted to laboratory
animals but hopefully, it is only a matter of time before
these exciting findings are used to benefit humans.
