The
healthy diet
Fruit and vegetables
are not only a rich source of antioxidants but they
also contain other natural compounds such as flavones,
coumarins and procyanadins that have numerous health
promoting properties.
If your diet consists
mostly of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, tofu and
a moderate amount of nuts then it is considered the
ideal cardioprotective diet as it will be high in complex
carbohydrates, dietary fibre, vegetable proteins, magnesium,
potassium and vitamin C, and low in saturated fat and
cholesterol.
Those with a type '0'
blood group do better with more protein in their diet,
whereas type 'A' are suited to a higher carbohydrate
diet. Interestingly for those chocoholics amongst you,
chocolate of all things has been found to reduce oxidised
LDL thereby conferring some benefits on your cardiovascular
system.
As chocolate is high
in fat and sugar it may not be advisable to have this
as part of your regular intake, however the occasional
indulgence may be doing you more good than you realise.
