Question:
I’m a body worker/healer and find
that at the end of my week I have little energy
towards myself and family! I have found that since
having my left ovary taken out in Aug05 I have
noticed changes in my body. However, my periods are
every 29 days but a week before they are due I have
phantom pain in the left void where my ovary use to
live. In 2007 I now have pain in my right ovary
region. Apart from that I'm just plain tired. Love
my sleep and usually get 7-9hrs per night. Have gone
off coffee. My diet is typical for a busy person. I
do eat little meals regularly to keep my energy
going. Going to a doctor who really is pushed for
time is not productive. Would appreciate your help.
PS I have no sex drive but then one needs the
stimulation and these days life is work.
Answer:
As indicated at the beginning of this
newsletter your grievances aren’t unusual. Sadly as
you’ve suggested doctors either just don’t have the
time or don’t always provide satisfactory answers
for these problems which is a growing concern. This
is something I deal with on a daily basis in my
practice and which for which I have a
programme which attempts to come to grips with
these complex issues. ‘You have the power’ deals
with this in
detail. Apart from examining the complexities
of your life and the nature of your relationships
with yourself and your family having your nutrient
levels including amino and fatty acids, iron, zinc,
B vitamins, magnesium, calcium, copper and manganese
and hormonal status evaluated would help to outline
the nature of the underlying imbalances contributing
to your problems. Hormonal deficiencies often need
to be identified by means of salivary assays and 24
hour urine collections.
Question:
I have elevated fungal infection that
is really bothering me and I’m struggling to find
effective treatment. Can you please help.
Answer:
These infections can be difficult to
manage and can take time. My suggestions include
commencing a yeast and sugar-free diet. This would
mean avoiding yeasts found in bread and alcohol and
other fermented products as well as sugars, even
those found in fruits which are high in sugar such
as banana, mangoes, melons and grapes.
Supplementing with acidophilus and bifidus, the good
germs which help eliminate the fungal germs is also
part of the treatment along with taking herbal
remedies like oregano, pau d’arco and olive leaf
extract. Finding a physician who is aware of this
form of treatment would also make it easier to
manage this problem.
Question:
My daughter-in-law (32) is pregnant
with her third child. She is suffering with
restless legs. Could you recommend something for
her please.
Answer:
There is recent research connecting
restless legs with the overgrowth of abnormal germs
in the bowel. Treatments with antibiotics or herbal
remedies to eradicate the abnormal germs, the
administration of probiotics which are the
beneficial bacteria and zinc where the mainstays of
treatment which lead to improvements in symptoms.
Low levels of iron, magnesium, B6, B12 and folic
acid might also be implicated. All of the above can
be evaluated by means of blood tests and the
presence of abnormal germs can be assessed
indirectly by means of a urine test.
Question:
As you mentioned in the your recent
news letter, I have lapses of memory, which I have
always had problems with (feel it's a confidence
thing, as it usually happens under pressure), but
would like to know what tests I need to undergo. I
am otherwise a fit slim healthy woman. Thyroid is of
concern.
Answer:
This is not an untypical phenomenon.
Excessive levels of the hormone cortisol which your
body manufactures when you are stressed can have
adverse effects on your memory centre and can limit
the production of thyroid hormone which stimulates
your metabolism and your brain function. Having
those
tests which assess cortisol and thyroid
production appropriately will make it easier for you
to balance these hormones in the best possible
fashion which will make remembering easier.
Question:
When I contact my wife I feel that my
penis does note erect properly and I am a man of 52
years old. Please tell me what to do?
Answer:
Sexual function is a complicated
business. Having your doctor assess your hormones
including testosterone and growth hormone to ensure
that your body is making adequate amounts of these
together with the assessment of your circulation
would help you to identify the cause of your
problem.
