QUESTION 1:
There is now evidence that soy might not be so good
for us. I’m
confused and would like to know the truth on the matter.
Asians women mostly use fermented soy
foods. Is
this better for us?
ANSWER: I
agree that the information we have available is
confusing. On
the one hand we are told that soy is good for our
hearts, protects us against breast and prostate cancer
and helps prevent osteoporosis while on the other hand
there is evidence that tofu consumption may lead to
Alzheimer’s disease and soy may stimulate the growth
of breast cancer cells.
Even the benefits of soy as far as cardiovascular
health is concerned have been questioned.
I don’t have the final word for you on this.
There might be an advantage in consuming
fermented soy products.
I would also suggest that you enjoy soy-based
products in moderation.
QUESTION 2: I have bad breath. So much
so that at times my wife won’t come near me.
Any suggestions to help salvage my marriage?
ANSWER:
There are a number of possibilities that you need to
look at. Gum
disease, postnasal drip, sinus infection, poor
digestion, food intolerance, liver malfunction and the
lack of good germs in the digestive tract may all
contribute to your problem.
What you need is an assessment by a health
professional who can institute those tests that will
illuminate the underlying cause of your problem.
Wheatgrass and barley juice are good internal
cleansers. Alfalfa
is a good source of chlorophyl, which will help purify
your bowel.
QUESTION 3: I feel really tired
in the morning but I notice that my energy picks up when
I exercise. Any ideas as to what might be going wrong?
ANSWER: :
As long as you are getting a good nights rest
then you need to have your hormone levels looked at.
If your body is not producing enough thyroid
hormone then you may feel tired in the morning but this
improves as the day goes on.
You may also notice that exercise makes you feel
better. When
you have your thyroid hormone levels evaluated make sure
that your doctor measures free T3 and free T4.
Free T3 is especially important as this is the
most influential component of your thyroid hormones.
