QUESTION 1:
Have you heard of Penta Water and the breakthrough
effects it is supposed to have? If so what do you
think of it? Is it a worthwhile or just a gimmick?
Answer: I’m
not familiar with Penta water so I thought I’d have a
look at some of the information available on the
internet. I
agree with the manufacturers of this product that we
need to maintain optimal hydration and that a lot of us
are remiss in this department. I would also support the report that went to air recently on
the CBS network in the USA that while this type of water
certainly sounds interesting the research evidence is
lacking. Still
if it helps some folk and ensures that they drink enough
water then this sounds like a good idea.
I’m not sure what the price is like.
QUESTION 2:
I was diagnosed with Grave's disease in 9/2000.
Do you know of anything that would make me go into
remission? I'm a single mother and I have no
energy and can't even work now. I am also
terrified of getting a worse autoimmune disease since my
body is out of balance or whatever. I had all my
mercury fillings removed. They claim it is hereditary
however no one in my family has any autoimmune diseases.
Answer: What you have to do is try to find
out what is triggering off your immune system to attack
your thyroid gland. Gluten intolerance/allergy might be a possibility and to
discover whether this is the case you would need to have
a blood test, which measures anti-gliadin antibodies.
There are certain natural substances, which have
a modulating effect on an overactive immune system and
these include phytosterols and perilla seed extract.
If you go to the website www.thorne.com
you will discover more information about phytosterols,
specifically a product called moducare.
The mineral selenium would also help your
condition. In
order to put all the above into practice it would be a
good idea to find a holistic practitioner familiar with
this approach.
QUESTION 3: What treatment/vitamins etc
do you advise for cold sores? Are they permanently
curable?
Answer: I don’t know of any permanent
cure for this condition but I do know that nutrients
such as L-lysine, zinc, vitamins C and E and the herb
licorice can be used with some success.
You would need to reduce foods that are high in
arginine and these would include cashews and almonds as
well as sesame seeds.
QUESTION 4: In
the light of current research news on conventional HRT,
what are your views on the safety of longterm use of
Livial for post-menopausal women?
Answer: Current research
with regard to Livial is encouraging.
It does not have an adverse affect on those
factors, which trigger heart disease and it also appears
to have a protective effect with regards to breast
tissue. Nevertheless
the company that manufacture this hormone concede that
no study has yet examined the relationship between
Livial and breast cancer and therefore absolute
reassurance in this regard is not available at this
time. Currently
research in this area is underway.
QUESTION 5: I
am unable to taste food nowadays and eating has become a
drag. Is there anyway to restore my taste buds? I
am not sure if it is due to medication but I doubt it.
Answer: If you have checked
this out with your doctor and you don’t have a major
neurological abnormality then it is highly likely that
you have a zinc deficiency, which is not an uncommon
phenomenon. Taking extra zinc in liquid form just might solve your
problem.
QUESTION 6:
I’m 23 years old and don’t have a beard yet.
Sometimes I feel like I’m boyish in front of my
friends. Therefore
if you have any treatment for that please inform me as
soon as possible.
Answer:
It would be a good idea to have your
situation checked out by a doctor. There could be reasons for this including hormonal and
genetic possibilities and the appropriate tests would
uncover any underlying problem that you might have.
QUESTION 7:
Is there medication that can be put under the skin like
they do in women? I
have a level of hormone at .7.
Answer: There are
testosterone pellets that can be inserted under the skin
and you would have to get your doctor to refer you to a
specialist who performs this type of procedure.
QUESTION 8: I
have Peyronie's and Dupuytren's.
It is manageable, to the extent I have not had
surgery, nor has the problem been bad enough to cause
pain, or contraction on fingers, etc. I have used a
topical Verapamil cream, obtained through a compounding
pharmacy with some success, i.e., some reduction in the
size of plaque. I
was wondering if you had any insight into another
treatment, other than Vitamin E, Paba, etc.
I still take 800units of E daily and some Paba. I
have read Paba can be toxic to the liver in high doses.
I hope you can help. Thanks, and I really enjoy your
site, and want to buy your book! You are doing Divine
Work!
Answer: Thanks for the warm complement. A while back one of the experts at one of the anti-aging
conferences mentioned the use of testosterone applied
topically to treat Peyronie’s.
What you would need to do is have your
testosterone levels measured and if these are low
applying testosterone to the affected area might be
extremely useful. This might take months to work. It
probably wouldn’t do you any harm to try this on your
contractures.
