QUESTION 1:  For the past 6 months I’ve been taking DHEA, testosterone, progesterone, thyroid, oestradiol, and using HgH strength 12 units amp using 6 units per week and my HgH has dropped from 14 to 8 over 6 months. I am under an anti-aging doctor. Can you please give me your opinion?

Answer:  This is an interesting question and it ties in nicely with what I’ve said on this update about measuring growth hormone.  In fact there is currently no way of measuring growth hormone directly and the closest we can get is to measure IGF-1.  There are experts who suggest that when growth hormone increases with treatment, IGF-1 actually decreases and this is what may be happening with you. I would be keen to see how your other hormones are progressing and equally to know how your energy and body composition is shaping up.

QUESTION 2:  I have been diagnosed with helicobacter bacteria infection. I would like to know what causes it and what can I do for it not to happen again.

Answer:  This is an infection, which is predominantly localised to the stomach.  There is evidence that this bug might have been present for a long period of time even from childbirth.  It is transmitted from person to person by means of infected vomit, which sounds absolutely awful. In other words kissing someone who has this infection can lead to problems.  Dentists also seem to acquire this organism rather easily.  There is no full proof way to protect yourself but you can take vitamin C and acidophilus which have the potential to get rid of this organism.

QUESTION 3: I would like to loose some weight to try and reduce my blood pressure to avoid having to start medication.  I purchased some OPTISLIM from my local health food store. I don’t feel it has made much difference, as I always feel hungry. Is there something you could suggest?   I would prefer not to take one with caffeine in it.  I realize I need to cut down my food intake, and have been trying but it is hard when I am hungry.

Answer:  Weight loss is something I specialise in.  You really should have the appropriate tests, which assess hormone function, insulin resistance, food intolerance and nutrient deficiencies and then commence the programme that is right for you.  I really don’t believe there is any magic weight loss product.

QUESTION 4:  I am a male of 22 yrs age. I have not grown any moustache, beard or body hair till now.  I used to have skin irritation at 17 and 18. I also have iron deficiency since my birth. These are my serious problems. How can they be solved?

Answer:   This you should have assessed with your doctor.  You may have hormonal problems or genetic imbalances leading to malabsorption of iron.  It is also possible that you have a gluten intolerance leading to the skin irritation you mention.  Let me know how you go.

QUESTION 5: I was hoping you may be to elaborate on HGH use in Australia for me.  Basically I have investigated every bit of info I can find in print and on the net regarding this hormone and I realise that Australia and Canada have different laws than say the UK, US and Mexico.  I am very interested in this hormone for myself.  I would like to know whether doctors in Australia are able to prescribe this hormone for their patients and if they are does this mean anyone can request to use it as long as their doctor is looking after the administering or whether there are special requirements that have to be met and how much does it cost?

Answer:  I’m not sure that it is any different obtaining growth hormone in Australia compared with any other country.  The cost of this hormone is in the region of $550 per month and it is available on prescription.

QUESTION 6: Could you please provide more information about supplements to assist people suffering from Lupus?

Answer:  As this is an autoimmune disease I suggest that you investigate those factors that could provoke your immune system into attacking your body including food allergy, heavy metal overload, imbalance in bowel germs and environmental sensitivities.  The hormone DHEA has been shown to improve this condition possibly by increasing testosterone in women.  You should have all your hormones measured and monitored once you commence DHEA treatment.  Decreasing your food consumption can also be helpful.  Taking omega-3 fatty acids found in fish or cod liver oil and the antioxidants vitamins A, C and E together with selenium can also lead to improvements.

QUESTION 7:  I suffer periodic bouts of Meniere’s syndrome and am taking serc and stemetil 3 times daily but have almost stopped stemetil.  I’m also taking Voltaren for muscle strain and blood pressure tablets. Can I also take Neurazest as I read in your column, which I believe will enable me to stop most medications?

Answer:   Neurazest can certainly help with Meniere’s syndrome and might relieve you of you need to take stemetil and serc.  With regard to the blood pressure tablets and the voltaren you are taking Neurazest might help to lower your blood pressure and reduce inflammation although it is not specifically indicated for pain relief and blood pressure control.  The only caution I would introduce is that gingko found in Neurazest and thiazide diuretics can clash for some reason and you should exercise some care when taking such a combination.

QUESTION 8:  I’m suffering from chronic nasal allergy with diminished or even loss of smell sense.  I tried many anti-allergic pills as well as inhalants which improve the allergy but not my sense of smell.  Recently I discovered that aspirin 0.3 mg might help.  Is this true?

Answer:  I’m not aware that aspirin improves the sense of smell although it is possible that by reducing inflammation matters do get better.  I would suggest that you have your allergies investigated as you may find that there are foods and environmental factors that you can avoid which improve your symptoms.  Zinc is indicated to improve the sense of taste but there is no harm in trying this supplement together with vitamin C and observing whether this yields any benefits.
