QUESTION 1:
I am being treated for bladder cancer
and I am wondering what foods and
liquids I should avoid.
I don’t smoke or drink alcoholic.
Answer:
You diet should be comprised mostly of fruit,
vegetables and fish.
Reducing red meat, dairy products and refined
carbohydrates such as biscuits, cakes, chocolate and
pastries would be helpful.
Vitamins A, B6, C and E plus zinc have been found
to be useful in reducing bladder cancer recurrence.
A probiotic called Lactobacillus casei has also
been shown to have a favourable effect as might garlic
and an immune boosting nutrient known as lactoferrin.
QUESTION 2: A Web site dealing with
environmental issues, e.g. wood pulp plants near
waterways, says that beta sitosterol interferes with
estrogen and fish reproduction. Do you know if that is
true? And what the repercussions might be for child
producing age human?
Answer: I’m
not aware of any evidence, which shows that wood pulp
generates beta sitosterol and wonder whether this is a
reference to xenoestrogens, which might result from this
kind of environmental situation. There is also a massive
question mark around the potency of these environmental
estrogens and the extent to which they are actually
absorbed by humans and cause hormonal disruption in the
body. Some
experts claim that levels of xenoestrogens are not
sufficient to cause problems especially with regard to
fertility and here the reference is to male fertility
and not that pertaining to female reproductive capacity.
QUESTION 3:I have an enlarged prostate gland
and I have to visit the urinal very frequently. Is there
a herbal remedy I can take to improve my symptoms?
I am a healthy person, but I have controlled
asthma. I take accuhaler (seretide 100) twice a day.
When I am in England I suffer from house dust and cat
allergy. When I go abroad then I do not suffer from any
allergies. What
is your advice?
Answer: Herbal
remedies such as saw palmetto, stinging nettle,
epilobium and red clover can be used to manage the
symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland.
Sometimes these take a while to work so you have
to be patient. Pharmaceutical
treatments such as tamsulosin hydrochloride or
finasteride can be used to alleviate your discomfort and
reduce you need to urinate while you are waiting for the
herbs to take effect.
With regard to your allergies these can often be
worse in an environment in which there are more
stressors. Taking
extra vitamin C, magnesium and the B vitamin group might
help to improve your condition in your home environment.
QUESTION
4: l was wondering if there are any
clinics here in Melbourne or doctors who prescribe
anti-ageing hormones.
Answer: If
you contact 95896088 you will be able to access a
database of all the doctors who have such a practice.
QUESTION 5: My 67-year-old Sister has a slowly progressing movement disorder, which
Sydney and Newcastle's best Neurologists have
been unable to define, let alone cure or improve over 3
years of tests. Her
main symptoms:
* Involuntary movement of hand and legs, especially left
side.
* Increasingly poor balance, and inability to gauge step
sizes, especially going down and on slopes.
* increasing weakness in left leg.
She has undergone multiple MRIs, Blood Test and Hair
Test etc. and has been CLEARED of having:
*Huntingtons Disease,
*Parkinson’s disease,
*MS.
My sister is otherwise very alert, still drives a car
and does NOT suffer from:
*Memory loss,
*Depression,
*Facial Ticks
*Speech disorders,
Since no Doctor has been able to define her illness or
suggest beneficial treatment, I have encouraged her to
take:
*Fish oil,
Antioxidants,
*Vitamin E,
*Glyconeutrients (Mannatech),
Unfortunately, none of these appear to be improving her
condition so far.
By the way, she had her Thyroid removed 10 years ago and
takes Thyroxin supplements.
We would be grateful for any clues you might suggest
what this disorder could be, or what she could take to
treat it.
Answer:
There are a number of factors that need to be
investigated including the adequacy of her thyroid
treatment and here her T3, T4 and reverse T3 levels as
well as her thyroid peroxidase antibodies need to be
measured. Morning temperatures over four days should be
taken with optimal levels being around the 36.8 mark or
98.4. Results consistently lower than this indicate that
her thyroid management is sub-optimal. Magnesium, B vitamin and iron levels need to be quantified.
Hormone levels, bowel function especially the
presence of the ‘leaky gut’ syndrome, food allergy
including gluten intolerance and heavy metal toxicity
need to be explored.
You should find a medical practitioner who I
sensitive to these issues.
QUESTION 6: Looking
through the net I found a site on THREELAC telling me
this could cure or will clear up candida.
Is this so?
Also what about VITAKLENZ.could I have your
advise please.
Answer:
Unfortunately there is no magic bullet for
candida. At
least none of which I’m aware.
Patients of mine have taken threelac with minimal
benefits either with regard to their complaints or their
candida antibody levels.
This problem sometimes necessitateslots of
perseverance with herbal remedies, diet, probiotic
supplements and sometimes medications such as diflucan
and nystatin although these are not my favourites. The
Candida Wellness Centre has a programme, which you might
want to explore. I’m afraid I have not incorporated
the vitaklenz formulation in my practice.
