QUESTION 1:
About 6 months ago I noticed some white
spot in my chest and some discoloration in my hands and
shoulders. I visited a skin specialist and he said this
is depigmentation.
He prescribed some liquid to be applied on the
skin and then stay in the sun for 30 to 2 minutes and
zincovit(Tablet). This treatment made my problem worse.
I am taking all kind of vitamins but the problem
continues. I am so desperate because of
these horrible white patches in my skin.
Could you please tell me if there is any hope in
recovering the colour of my skin? Is there any
treatment that you know I can follow, or is there any
doctor that has discovered a cure for depigmentation?
Answer:
This condition called ‘vitiligo’ can be
difficult to treat. However your situation may be
connected with low thyroid function and gluten
intolerance. I
suggest you have these assessed by your doctor.
0.1% tacrolimus ointment has been used to treat
this condition in children.
QUESTION 2: My 87yr old mother was
diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism 3 weeks ago. Are
there any supplements to help her? She is on a daily
dose of warfarin.
She also has heart problems and takes coenzyme Q 10,
Vit E and Vit C as well as 100mcg Oroxine for
Hashimoto's disease and Zestril and Lipitor for high
blood pressure.
Answer: I
would add a B vitamin complex to her regimen together
with folic acid as these have the ability to reduce
homocysteine, which is associated with blood clots.
Neurazest contains B12 and folic acid but if you
chose to incorporate this remedy you need to have her
doctor review her warfarin status as the combination of
gingko biloba and warfarin needs constant medical
surveillance due to the problem associated with
bleeding. Otherwise
you need to look at a B vitamin complex that does not
have gingko and there are many around.
QUESTION 3: My wife is too lean weighing 38
kgms ( height 160 cms). But she is not having any
complaints. What
could be the reason for this body condition and please
suggest me some ways to improve her body weight? Also
she is thinking of using some supplements to improve her
breast size. Is it recommended? If so, which one we have
to buy?
Answer:
If she is not malnourished, is absorbing her
nutrients and has no medical complaints then you should
review her hormonal levels as these may be out of
balance. Low
oestrogen affects breast size and you should have this
assessed by your doctor.
QUESTION
4: I am 28 and my moustache and beard has
not grown properly?
That is the hairs are very sparse. So is there
any injection or medicine to have more hair? My pubic
hair and underarms hair has grown properly.
Answer: Your
doctor should assess this. A hormonal evaluation might
be helpful.
QUESTION 5: I'm
wondering if you could be of any help? For about
14 months now I've had vaginal thrush at least once
a month, if not twice and it just keeps coming back.
I've gone off the pill as sometimes that can
increase the chance of it happening. I have diflucan
regularly, I've had nizoral. I take acidophilus and
garlic tablets daily, wash the area with either salty
water or vinegar and water. I've been tested for
diabetes. I've had my partner tested and also put on a
course of anti biotics just in case. We use condoms but
it just keeps coming back. I've seen the treatment
'Three Lac.’ Do you think this would be of any use to
me? Are you able to help me with other solutions?
Answer:
To be frank it seems like you have exhausted most
options so I suggest you give three lac a try.
It is also possible that your hormones are out of
balance and here I’m talking about oestrogen and
progesterone. Have
them measured one week before your period.
QUESTION 6: I
am currently taking oroxine 100mcg. I have been on this
medication for approx 10 yrs. I have a weight problem
and find that even though I am on a low carbo diet and
am very strict with what I eat, I am finding it very
hard to lose weight.
This is very frustrating for me.
I have read that T3( LIOTHYRONINE ) is another
form of thyroxine I could take that would help me to
lose weight. Is this the case? I would really appreciate
your help. Would a local doctor prescribe the T3 type?
Answer:
This form of treatment can be helpful, as oroxine
or T4 doesn’t always make T3, which is the more
metabolically active form of thyroid hormone. Have your
T3 levels measured before you proceed.
Your doctor can prescribe this type of hormone
treatment.
