QUESTION 1:  I have a candida problem on my rear end.  I’m using canesten and cortisone but this rash is getting worse.  Can you help?

Answer:  I have found that this kind of problem is best treated with a yeast-free diet, acidophilus, the good germ that limits yeast or candida overgrowth as well as herbal medicines such as pau d’arco and grapeseed extract designed to eliminate candida superinfection.

QUESTION 2:  Can andropause be healed totally and forever?

Answer:  Andropause is a contraversial concept reffering to the decrease in testosterone production in the aging male leading to a host of symptoms including diminished libido and sexual function, fatigue and depression. Not all doctors recognise this as a legitimate syndrome claiming that testosterone levels are variable in men as they age.  If you suffer from these symptoms and your testosterone levels are low then you may benefit from boosting your levels of this hormone.

QUESTION 3:  I have not recovered physically or mentally from the six bites taken out of my prostate gland for a prostate biopsy practice for a future MD at The University of Michgian Medical School Hospital. They called it "research" and I was uninformed that my prostate was quite healthy, my PSA’s were good the little amount of blood in my fluid once or twice was calcification a symtom which had stopped long before my surgery.  I've been taking viagra.  It's been well over a year now and my ejeculatory fluid is still very very low and my sex drive is all but gone.  Can you give me any hope for recovery?

Answer:  As per the previous question your testosterone levels might be low and boosting this hormone might help you. You should also have your DHEA, thyroid hormone and growth hormone checked as low levels of these hormones might be implicated.

QUESTION 4:  Some 18 months ago my libido dropped suddenly from having sex twice per week to once per month.  That in itself is not really a concern. What is a concern, however is the aches and pains in my elbows and shoulders that followed.  I suspected a too rapid decline in hormone levels and embarked on a course of vitamins and commercial libido enhancers containing all of the natural hormone precursors outlined in your book which I bought last year.  My libido is improving but the real problem of joint pain persists.
Could hormone treatment be helpful?

Answer: Hormones might help but I would prefer to address the underlying cause of your joint problems. If you are suffering from osteoarthritis then supplements such as glucosamine, fish oil and the natural herbal anti-inflammatories curcumin, boswellia and ginger might reducce your discomfort.

QUESTION 5:  Question: I would greatly appreciate a generic answer to the following situation.  My doctor is clueless.  I am 57 years old, with extremely diminished libido.  I have had all the tests and physicals.  The doctors wish they were as healthy as I am, but so what?  I exercise 4 times a week, my body fat percentage is 12%, and I eat very healthy.  My total testosterone is 400  and the range is between 260 to 1000.  My free testosterone is 79 and the range is between 50 to 210.  This information was provided by Quest Diagnostics.
What should my testosterone level be assuming there are not other problems?

Answer:  I agree that your testosterone levels are on the low side of normal and I would encourage you to investigate the reasons for this.  Is your sex hormone binding globulin elevated?  This is the carrier molecule that transports testosterone around the body and if elevated testosterone levels will be compromised.  Liver dysfunction can increase sex hormone binding globulin.  If your body is producing too much of the female hormone oestrogen then testosterone levels can be depressed.  Stress compromises testosterone levels. Having said all this it sounds like you would benefit from boosting your testosterone production.  The minerla zinc can do this alternately you might need testosterone supplementation.

QUESTION 6: I have had several measures taken re 'cell hydration' and they all show me to be below average, despite my drinking around 2 litres of fluids a day. I do have some fibromyalgia symptoms but otherwise seem OK health-wise. I exercise aerobically, and I take a multi, fish oil, E, gingko (had a DVT 2 yrs ago), Ca, Mg, and 5HTP for the fibromyalgia.  I am 64,post menopause, not taking hormones, weigh around 70k and am 167cm. Any ideas as to how to ameliorate this poor cell hydration?  I am wondering if this is causing the fibromyalgia symptoms.  Are there any tests I should have performed? Things I should take?

Answer:  You are taking all the right supplements so the next thing would be to have your hormone levels measured.  You might be suffering from low thyroid and growth hormone function with evidence that the latter hormone can be used to treat fibromyalgia. You mighy alos benefit from increasing your antioxidant intake and here alpha-lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10 would be useful.

QUESTION 7:  I would like to know your opinion on the efficacy of oral Glutathione(immunocal)instead of IV glutatione

Answer: I don’t believe that oral glutathione is well absorbed from the gut.  IV would be the way to go.  To increase glutathione you need to take substances which boost you levels of this nutrient including N-acetylcysteine, alpha-lipoic acid and selenium

QUESTION 8: I have Hashimoto's for the last 14 years and am on 100mcg Oroxine.  I have myxoedema in my lower legs now and have just noticed the puffy eyes on waking. Is there anything I can take to help this condition?

Answer:  It doesn’t sound like the oroxine is doing the trick indicating that you need to review your treatment with your doctor.  You may need to increase your dose.  Zinc, selenium and omega-3 fatty acids might help to increase your thyroid hormone levels.  You should also get your doctor to investigate coeliac disease as this has a connection with Hashimoto’s.
