QUESTION 1:
I had treated a patient with testosterone two months
ago. Now he
has an increase in libido but he has still a decrease in
strength and endurance.
How can we help him to improve his endurance?
Answer:
I suggest you evaluate all this patients
hormones including growth hormone, thyroid hormone and
oestrogen as he may be converting the testosterone you
are giving him to oestrogen especially if he is
overweight. You
also need to evaluate his nutrient status with special
emphasis on his amino acid levels, as these are needed
to provide for muscle strength and endurance.
QUESTION 2: I attended the Anti Aging
Medicine Conference in Kuala Lumpur in May 2004 having
practised most of the principles on my family and
myself. I
am being employed by Midwest Murchison in West Australia
from Feb 2005 as a Primary Health Nurse Practitioner
(South African Qualifications) or Community Nurse in
Australia and they have seen the application of healthy
aging in my own life and wish me to run with a program
towards healthy aging within the community.
I would like to know if you offer any recognized
courses on behalf of the society, which I should
undertake to complete in order to better equip myself
for the work ahead?
Answer: I
don’t offer any courses but the book ‘Eternal
health’ which is described on this site has some
useful educational material. Swinburne University in Melbourne is offering postgraduate
courses in anti-aging medicine and then there is the
American Academy of Anti-aging medicine at www.worldhealth.net
who provide ongoing education.
QUESTION 3: Concerning Peyronie’s
disease, although I am a healthy family physician with
no unhealthy habits and 24 years of marriage I have
suddenly developed painful plaque! Not resolving now
with vitamin E and NSAIDs for 3 months. Urologists say
there is no good treatment. I have no desire to ever
have surgery. Much
research has led me to want to try the verapamil cream.
I have no one here in the states who seems to
have heard of it, not docs or pharmacists. If I can get
a compounding pharmacist to make it for me how is it
prepared and dosed?
Answer: Peyronie’s disease is associated with curvature of
the penis. I
suggest you contact the pharmacist in Sydney, Australia
who does the compounding of verapamil for me.
The contact number is 2-95247131 preceded by the
international code with Bob and Marina being the contact
pharmacists. Bear
in mind that in Australia we are +-15 hours ahead of the
USA. Other
treatments that you might want to explore include the
nutrient acetyl-L-carnitine, which has been shown in a
clinical trial to reduce pain and inhibit disease
progression as well as topical testosterone and
dihydrotestosterone applied to the tissue that is
resulting in the curvature.
Colchicine used to treat gout is another nutrient
that used together with vitamin E has been demonstrated
to have a benefit.
