QUESTION 1:
I made love with my boyfriend a month ago.
I am very concerned that I might be pregnant, as
I have not had my period.
My boyfriend used a condom but I’m not on the
pill. Please
advise.
Answer:
This can be resolved by a simple pregnancy test, which
can be performed by your doctor, and I suggest you have
one of these as soon as possible.
QUESTION 2: I am very active still in a
high level of competitive sport and am being advised
that considering my age growth hormone along with DHEA
should be considered. What are the inherent risks of
taking these? I have no family history of cancer or
heart disease.
Answer: It
would be a good idea to have all your hormones measured
including testosterone, oestrogen, thyroid hormones and
progesterone together with an evaluation of your
nutrient status to get a comprehensive handle on your
health. This
is the kind of wellness/anti-ageing assessment that I do
at my clinic in Sydney.
Excessive DHEA levels have been associated with
breast cancer and possibly with heart disease in men.
Once you take DHEA you would need to have your
breasts constantly checked along with your cholesterol
and lipoprotein (a) levels via a blood test.
DHEA can also adversely affect lipoprotein (a),
which is a risk factor for heart disease.
I have just finished writing a book on this and
other matters of health entitled ‘Medicine’s
future,’ which should be published soon so stay tuned.
In the meantime there’s lots of coverage of
this topic in my book ‘Eternal Health’ which is
advertised on this site.
Growth hormone supplementation if excessive once
again can raise IGF-1 levels which also places you at
risk of developing cancer which means you have to be
extremely cautious when taking this hormone and
constantly have your levels monitored.
QUESTION 3: What is a "leaky
thyroid?" and does it cause ulcers in throat the
throat raw and painful? Does it cause stomach pain
and burning?
Answer: I’ve
heard of all sorts of abnormal thyroid disorders but
never ‘leaky thyroid.’
I wonder if you are referring to ‘leaky gut,’
which can be associated with burning and the kind of
pain to which you refer.
Alternatively you might be referring to
autoimmune thyroid disorder, which is connected with
inflammation of the thyroid gland and discomfort in the
neck. Either
way both of these disorders can be influenced by food
allergy/intolerance such as gluten intolerance and/or
yeast allergy. Both
of these can be assessed by means of blood tests
performed by your doctor.
QUESTION
4: What can I do to heal/remove a fungal infection?
I have a brown/red rash on my chest, the first spots of
which appeared a year ago and one of which is now
slightly red and itchy. I am certain I have
candida in the pathological form you mention on your
website. I have been treating/fighting it off and
on for many years, but it keeps recurring. I
rarely get thrush anymore but there is still a slight
irritation in my vagina. I'm definitely getting
stomach bloating for the past month.
I have white coating on tongue.
I was diagnosed with RRMS in August 2001, which
has connections with leaky gut. I am not on any of
the MS drugs but follow the Best Bet Diet, which
consists mainly of veggies, poultry, fish and excludes
red meat, dairy and suggests a saturated fat intake of
20g per day. I eat no sugar or honey or caffeine.
I eat so carefully (and still find joy in it) but my
body still doesn't get rid of the candida.
I would really appreciate your opinion.
Answer: Sometimes
you need to go for the heavy artillery when treating
candida and this includes medications like nizoral or
diflucan, which are powerful anti-fungal agents.
There is also the theory that you have to have
your mercury amalgams removed before you can effectively
treat candida.
QUESTION 5: What
if any is the newest and best treatment for ulcerated
colitis? I
have a friend in the Netherlands, who has contacted me
for assistance. He is presently suffering from this for approx 20 months.
He needs your help if possible.
Answer:
Natural anti-inflammatories such as fish oil
can help to alleviate the symptoms of ulcerative
colitis. My advice is also to have food
allergies/intolerance evaluated.
Natural remedies that heal the lining of the
bowel include the amino acid glutamine, the mineral
zinc, vitamin A and the herb aloe vera.
Beneficial germs such as acidophilus and bifidus
can also be helpful.
QUESTION 6: Is
it normal for a woman 81yrs of age to be having heavy
discharge and signs of blood spotting from the vagina?
Answer:
No I’m afraid it isn’t and you should
have this checked out by your doctor.
QUESTION
7: I have areas of yellow discoloration
and slightly puckered skin, which I’m told is due to
cholesterol but my cholesterol levels aren’t high.
Is there anything I can do about this in the way
of massage or creams?
Answer:
Low thyroid hormone function can lead to the
features you describe and you can have your thyroid
hormone function evaluated by means of a blood test.
Topical creams which include vitamins A, C and E
as well as alpha-lipoic acid might be helpful.
QUESTION 8: I
have hirsutism and I am extremely tired all the time. I
am also addicted to caffeine & sugar, even though I
know I shouldn't have either. I have read your book
Eternal Health (it's great!) & also "Eat Right
for Your Type" - I am a Type A, but I don't have
the energy to stick to this diet.
I would appreciate any suggestions that may help
me. Thank
you for your book.
Answer:
Hirsutism is sometimes connected with high
testosterone levels, which in turn can be caused by
insulin resistance.
Caffeine and sugar cravings are tied in with this
condition. Insulin resistance can be assessed by means
of a simple blood test, which measures glucose and
insulin levels before and after a sugar drink.
If you do have insulin resistance there are
simple dietary measures that you can follow and
supplements you can take such as cinnamon, chromium,
alpha-lipoic acid, vanadium, fish oil and magnesium that
can impact this disorder in a positive fashion.
‘Eternal health’ does refer to this disorder and I
have a follow up chapter in ‘Medicine’s future’,
which will be released soon, that covers this in more
detail.
