QUESTION 1: If Proscar blocks the activity of testosterone in the prostate cells, it may or even should do the same in the muscles and brain tissue. Would not it result in muscular atrophy and gradual decline in mental functions?

Answer:  Proscar is a medication used to treat enlargement of the prostate.  What it does is prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, the stronger androgen thought to be responsible for this problem.  There should be a minimal effect on the action of testosterone and therefore muscle and brain tissue would be spared.

QUESTION 2: I was thinking of putting my husband on fucoidan.  He has a prostate problem. I read an article from the F.D.A. against this product. Can you help me?

Answer:  There is a whole lot of research on fucoidan including the claims that this substance causes cancer cells in the test tube to die.  I could find no direct evidence that fucoidan could be used to treat prostate disorders.  I suggest you review this with your doctor.

QUESTION 3:  I just recently started taking Priority One thyroid Plus instead of Levothyroxine, and I had a systemic allergic reaction about half an hour after taking the Priority One pills this morning.  Have you ever heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to this product?

Answer:  This is an unusual reaction.  You’d best avoid this treatment if you are reacting in such a manner.

QUESTION 4:   I have acne brought on by PMS. For some reason, I couldn't connect to your link on 'Diet, Tests and Remedies for acne'. Could you please send me the information by email? It would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:  My suggestion is to have your hormone levels measured one week before your period along with a hormone called testosterone as well as dihydrotestosterone.  These are traditionally viewed as male hormones however women possess them in lesser amounts.  Once these are elevated skin problems can set in.  You should also be tested for food allergies and have your liver and bowel function evaluated.  The germ helicobacter pylori, which is found in the stomach, has been associated with acne rosacea.  Vitamin deficiencies may also be implicated.

QUESTION 5: I have been on an anti-candida diet for a week now and have started to feel tired.  Could the diet have anything to do with it?

Answer:  It is very common to get problems with candida treatments during the first week of this therapy and fatigue is certainly one of those.  Hang in there.

QUESTION 6: Can you suggest any treatment for ankylosing spondylitis.  I’m stiff and in pain.

Answer: A doctor friend of mine has found that Tahitian Noni juice is very helpful.  You would need to take large doses of this remedy.  The herbs ginger, boswellia and turmeric are natural anti-inflammatories.  Fish oil supplements might also be useful.
